The Procope was a cafe where people trying to build their reputation liked to be seen. It is also one of the first places in Paris which started serving coffee!
French Revolution Decor
Food is served in a beautiful setting that reminds us of the time of the French Revolution. On one of the walls, you can find the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen adopted in 1789, highly influenced by Enlightenment principles of human rights, and at the entrance you will get the chance to see Napoleon’s ‘bicorne’ or hat, given away to help him reimburse his debts!
Classic French cuisine
The restaurant serves delicious traditional French cuisine. Dishes include the classic Coq au vin, trout meuniere and Burgundy snails. It is also a great place to enjoy platters of sea food and fish dishes. The brave amongst you can try the “tete de veau” – a full calf’s head in a plate staring right at you. For dessert, you can try an excellent crème brulee or chocolate profiteroles.
